Providing an SDSs in only English or French would not be considered to be in compliance. The information elements provided on a safety data sheet must be in both official languages of Canada (English and French). Hazardous product means any product, mixture, material or substance that is classified in accordance with the regulations made under subsection 15(1) in a category or subcategory of a hazard class listed in Schedule 2 ( produit dangereux) The official definition of a “hazardous product” is If a product covered by the Hazardous Products Act meets the criteria to be included in a hazard class or category, it is considered to be a "hazardous product".

While these jurisdictions based their WHMIS regulations on the common model, small variations between jurisdictions may exist in how they adopted WHMIS 2015.
